A year ago, correspondents from the Deutsche Welle (DW) reported on an interesting scene in the parks of Beijing. According to the report, a new collective activity has emerged gradually in recent years. On Sundays, many citizens gather in groups in various parks of Beijing to practice chorus singing. The groups were of different sizes, ranging from several people to several hundred and sometimes over one thousand. Initially, the people sang songs mostly from the former Soviet Union or the Chinese songs from the 1960s and 1970s. Despite the Chinese media's praises for the activity, the report raises doubts as to whether the participants take part in the choruses simply for fun or for other reasons altogether.
