This book is an expanded reproduction of the TV documentary I Am from Xinjiang on the Silk Road, which tells the true stories of the lives and dreams of average people from Xinjiang who live and work in all parts of China. With the “Chinese dream of Xinjiangers” as the subject matter, the author makes it possible for readers to reconstruct their image of Xinjiangers, rethink interpersonal relationships and develop a true image of themselves. Moreover, the author expects the pioneering spirit of the protagonists to build into a positive force of great momentum that inspires people and keeps them away from grievances and backsliding. With a simple warmth of its own, the book is not in for profound preaching, but is bent on representing average Chinese nationals who work hard for the sake of their loved ones and fight for a better life as they cling to the dreams that they hold so dear. Where do they or we come from? We come from Xinjiang and all other parts of China. We are a community of shared destiny and of our time. We share the same feelings and vision and we are on the same journey to happiness!

Editor's Recommendation

Kurbanjan has an unusual purity and simplicity about him. He tells us about faith, hope and the good side of human nature; he shows us the ordinary and the extraordinary, the excellent and the outstanding, hardships and victory over hardships, the similar and dissimilar and the fullness of life in you and me and in those around us.
Wang Meng, senior writer, former minister of culture

The book answers the big question of “where I come from,” and yet Kurbanjan does not simply provide a direct answer to the question. Instead, he uses the question to help readers find answers for themselves, as we all come from life and are part of life itself.
Bai Yansong, CCTV talk show host

Kurbanjan’s sustained efforts over the past few years are known to all! His new and down-to-earth perspective is rare and precious. I hope more people like him will rise to the occasion and tell people about Xinjiang in the true and objective light!
Yang Jinlin, news commentator

Kurbanjan’s mirror-like record of real people’s lives and thoughts in their own words describes how they hold onto their dreams and subsist with a positive attitude. Told in a vivid and compelling manner, the stories are convincing enough to help bridge differences and remove dividing walls.”
Cui Yongyuan, CCTV talk show host

Having known Kurbanjan for ten years, I have seen him grow from a juvenile learner to a good breadwinner of his family, from a shy and immature young man to a social activist, and from an assistant photographer to a producer of full-length documentaries. During this changing process, the only thing about him that has not changed is his passionate love of life, of the Chinese nation and of the world as a whole.
Chen Xiaoqing, CCTV producer
