The Italian missionary Giuseppe Castiglione came to China in the 18th
century and became a famous court painter of Qing Dynasty. Giuseppe
Castiglione lived in China for more than 50 years and was qppreciated by
emperors ot three generations. Combining both the Western and Chinese
painting techniques, he began to establish a unique painting style. He
also introduced the European painting skills to Chinese painters.
Giuseppe Castiglione made great contribution to the cultural and art
exchange between China and the West through his painting and instruction
in China.
