I have read the "Secrets of a Computer Company" and "An Old Painting" in the 500-word series. The words used seem to roughly approximate the words in the HSK3 vocabulary list, so if you are studying at that level these books are excellent for practising your reading and (using the accompanying CD) listening comprehension. Great value too.
