The way of music development is a key point to understand music in terms of its structure. The most frequently used by composers are “sets”, organically composed of several musical fragments, and “collections”, varied and repeated by one single musical fragment. They have formed what we call “sketch collection”,“suite (collection)”or “variation” in traditional composition system. These genres are always Chinese composer’s favorites because we find those entitled “suite”(sketch collection included and “variation” much more employed than other types. Therefore, we compiled these two into one volume with three books for the readers to appreciate these two different styles.
