The Story of the New Year Cake is the fourth volume of Chinese folk stories. Chinese people have the tradition to have new year cake during the Spring Festival. Some say this tradition started from the Zhou Dynasty and has a history of over 3000 years till now. The time period for cereal crop to become mature is regarded as one year, so having new year cake means celebration of good harvest of crops.
