Among the most prized and cherished of porcelains among traditional scholars were those of Ju ware. With its full glaze, tiny sesame-seed sized support marks, and marvelous sky-blue glaze color, it was not just the lustrous hue but also the simple elegance that fascinated connoisseurs through the ages. Vessels are noble and solid in appearance, their surfaces marked by a simple and elegant blue color compared to the sky after a rain.
Making them even more precious is the fact that they are so rare. The collection of Ju ware in the National Palace Museum stands out in both quantity and quality as the best in the world. To make this exhibit as part of the "Grand View" series even more complete, the Museum also borrowed outstanding pieces from the Percival David Foundation at the University of London and the Museum of Oriental Ceramics in Osaka as well as new archaeological discoveries from the Henan Provincial Administration of Cultural Heritage. The simultaneous publication of this refined catalogue allows lovers of Chinese ceramics both domestically and internationally to enjoy this pinnacle of Chinese culture.
