Chinese people often use “你属什么的?” (Which animal year were you born in?) to ask about one’sage. There are twelve animal signs in the Chinese zodiac, including the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, rooster, dog, and hoar, with each representing one year in a twelve-year cycle. Many Chinese people believe, scientifically or not, that one’s personality and temperament have much to do with the animal that represents the year of one’s birth. People sometimes use one’s animal to predict their future, love, career, fortune, etc.
