The Small Fortress is a collection of novellas written by children literature writer Xue Tao, which includes his eight representative works such as “The Small Fortress,” “The Departing Train” and “Noon in the Botanical Garden.” The heroine of “The Small Fortress,” is a tenacious girl named Shallo, who stubbornly and lonely protects the last “fortress” in Sun Town during its procession of urbanization. The author depicts Shallo’s growth under the care of his father after her parents’ divorce with delicate words. The whole story is with an air of light blue, but Shallo’s perseverance and kindness, as well as her protection and love to Nature, will move every reader deeply. Xue Tao’s inspiration comes from the land he lives. With elegant words and sincere feelings, he creates a small fortress for children themselves.
