Practical Communicative Chinese is the research finding on “Specialized Teaching Materials for The Beltand Road Initiative and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area”. This set focuses on cultivatingChinese learners’ Chinese communication competence, and designs for primary Chinese learners from “Belt and Road”countries, especially Southeast Asian countries. The whole set consists of 4volumes, each of which includes 6 communicative parts, 24 communicativefunctions and 2 comprehensive practices. The communicative functions involvedinclude “meeting and greeting”, “asking for help”, “shopping and bargaining”,“sports and fitness”, “medical treatment”, “tourism”, etc., which can meet thecommon communication needs of international students in daily life, study andtravel. All communication topics are derived from practice and are highlyrealistic and practical. The textbook design pays special attention to theapplication of digital technology, and provides various resources includingaudio recording, animation, Chinese writing video, etc., which enable readers tohave a good interactive experience.
This is the first volume,which contains communication scenes such as “meeting and greeting”, “consultinginformation”, “farewell”, “asking the time”, “finding a location” and “exchangingmoney for shopping”.
About the Author
Wang Gongping is an associateprofessor and postgraduatesupervisor of College of Chinese Language and Culture,Jinan University. He has a PhD in Linguistics and Applied Linguistics. His mainresearch focuses on teaching Chinese as a foreign language and Chinese languageeducation, second language acquisition, and international Chinese teachingmaterials and resources. He has presided over and participated in 15 projects,including the National 863 Project, the National Social Science Foundation, theYouth Fund and Planning Fund of the Ministry of Education, and the PlanningFund of the State Language Commission, etc. He has published 11 works andtextbooks independently and jointly, and more than 40 academic papers onteaching Chinese as a foreign language and Chinese language education.
Li Xianzhuo is an associate professor and postgraduate supervisor of InternationalCollege for Chinese Studies, Nanjing Normal University. His research focuses onChinese teaching, acquisition and processing. He has presided over oneprovincial and ministerial scientific research project and two departmentalprojects, participated in the compilation of five teaching materials such as ComprehensiveChinese, Leveled Reading and Teaching Skills, and publishedmore than 10 papers in journals including TCSOL Studies, ForeignLanguages, and Acta Psychologica Sinica.

1. It is necessary to fully understand and implement the compiling concept of thistextbook - intelligent teaching and learning.
This conceptrequires to make full use of information technology and follow the law ofstudents’ growth to cultivate learners’ Chinese communicative ability, based onmastering Chinese and aiming at understanding Chinese culture.
2. It is necessary to reasonably explain and practice the four pairs of teachingcontents in this textbook, in order to realize the practicability andapplicability of communication. The four pairs are Chinese-world, ancient China-contemporaryChina, Chinese language-Chinese culture, popular communication topics andexpressions-elegant communication topics and expressions.
3. It is necessary to use the rich teaching resources of this textbook in a scientificand flexible way.
(1) Thecontent of paper resources is carried out in turn with each lesson includingsix parts. However, whether for teachers’ teaching or students’ learning, it’sbetter to flexibly adjust according to their own abilities instead of mechanicallyfollowing.
(2) Every lesson of electronic resources includes audio, animationvideo, and GIF of Chinese characters. It’s better to make full use of it in anintelligent way, whether for teaching inside the classroom or practicingoutside the classroom. Teachers should scientifically guide, demonstrate andsupervise, in order to truly adapt to and realize the mobile and instantChinese learning anywhere.
