本书是一本适合中级以上汉语水平的外国留学生使用的汉语学习教材。内容以中国语言、传统文化等的介绍为主。鉴于每篇课文均为概况介绍，在课后附有一篇深入介绍相关知识的500字左右短文。课后练习共设计5个部分，1-3题为词汇训练，4题为口语表达训练，5题为课程实践和书面表达训练。
