In 2017, the central government and the State Council of China decided to set up the state-level development area, Xiong an New Area. Located in the city of Baoding in Hebei Province, the new area encircles Beijing, the capital city of China and Tianjin Manicipality. Xiong'an New Area encompasses Xiongxian County, Rongcheng County and Anxin County. As a new development engine and a booster to the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei Province, the area is set up to adjust and optimize the urban layout and spatial structure of the three regions

The area has a profound history and splendid culture, where there are 213 items of intangible cultural heritages, three of which are at national level. These items vary in form and size. There are categories of folk literature, folk music, traditional sports recreation and acrobatics, and traditionalopera, etc.

However, at present related research is far from enough. Professor Fan Zhou introduces the unique cultural heritages and cultural phenomena in his Research Report of the Development of Xiong'an New Area. According to the search results o www.cnki.com, from 2016 to 2 0 1 8 . 830papers were about the new area But there is no research about the intangible cultural heritages of this area. In 2018, there were two papers related with the cultural development of this area.

Presently, China has a great influence in the world. The foreign publicity of traditional Chinese culture of the Xiong an New Area is high on the agenda. Although the general investigation, classification, sorting out and protection of the intangible cultural heritages of this area have already been underway, relevant translation practices and research still remain nearly blank. It is urgent and necessary for researchers and teachers to translate them into English to protect and promote such glorious traditional Chinese culture

The intangible cultural heritages of Hebei Province are classified into fi batches of the national level and six batches of the provincial level. The introduction In the book focuses on the items in three countries of Xiong'an, which are divided into many different types, such as folk literature, folk music, traditional opera, and traditional sports, recreation and acrobatics, etc. Representative items of different types in each country are translated and introduced one by one.

This book is written against the background of the establishment of Xiong'an New Area, targeting at the translation of the intangible cultural heritages in the three counties of Xiong'an, aiming to promote the publicity of the traditional Chinese culture to the outside world so that the world can better understand the construction and cultural features of the new area. The intangible cultural heritage items herein discussed are mainly national, provincial, and municipal levels, varying in size and form. The book introduces all items of the national and provincial levels based on the existing materials and documents with a focus on the contents of the item, its inheritance, its development, the problem of its spread, and the inheritor and its performing form if there is any.
