景德镇市陶瓷考古研究所自20世纪80年代以来, 对明、清两代景德镇御窑遗址进行过多次正式考古发掘和抢救性发掘, 出土的御窑瓷片数以吨计, 这为景德镇市人民政府与故宫博物院合作举办明代御窑瓷器系列对比展奠定了基础. 自2015年以来, 双方曾合作举办过6个展览, 展示了许多珍贵的明代景德镇御窑瓷器.
本展览将一些新发现且未曾展出的明代御窑瓷器残件和修复品, 与经过精心挑选的故宫博物院藏传世品进行对比展出, 旨在向公众汇报整理明代景德镇御窑遗址出土瓷片标本的新成果, 进一步展示明代景德镇御窑瓷器生产所取得的辉煌成就.
