I purchased the Conversational Chinese 301 Vol.1 (3rd English Edition) textbook and workbook several weeks ago. These are great materials for self-study. I have found even without teacher guidance the lessons are easy to navigate and I am having great success retaining the information presented. The included DVD is of numerous scenes acting out the dialogues from each chapter of the textbook, and it gives a nice method by which to ensure your pronunciations of pinyin text are correct, as well as providing a resource to help "tune" your ear to listening to both native and second-language speakers.
