History of using cobalt-blue pigment as the coloring agent in China can be traced back to Spring and Autumn period, during which time underglaze colour decoration was applied consciously during the production of blue porcelain. But drilling material was not used at that time. Later, the white porcelain was produced in Sui dynasty, paving way for the production of blue and white porcelain.
