"Unfilled Graves", which is the title of this collection, describes an inaccessible mountain village where the men-folk get married as soon as they are old enough and leave the village to look for work. Any stray male passers-by are inveigled to stay and father a child before they are allowed to leave. The mother has the child and then mourns his going at her absent husband's empty grave.
