Portuguese is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, with nearly 250 million speakers across Europe, Africa, the Americas, and parts of Asia. In recent years, as social, cultural, and economic exchanges between my country and Portuguese-speaking countries have intensified, the demand for Chinese-Portuguese bilingual resources has steadily grown. To meet this need, The Commercial Press has published the first medium-sized *Chinese-Portuguese Dictionary* in China. Comprising four million characters, the dictionary contains nearly 50,000 entries—ranging from single characters to multi-character terms. While the selection focuses primarily on general vocabulary, it also incorporates encyclopedic terms and a wealth of fixed expressions, phrases, idioms, set phrases, proverbs, aphorisms, and maxims. Furthermore, the dictionary addresses the significant lexical differences between the Portuguese used in Portugal and Brazil, giving these variations due consideration during compilation while adhering to standard Portuguese orthography for spelling and expression.
