Developing Chinese (3rd Edition) is a set of systematic Chinese language teaching materials foradults that embodies the teaching concept of “development” and adopts the modelof “integrating comprehensive language ability cultivation with specializedlanguage skills training”, which can be divides into three levels (elementary,intermediate and advanced) and six series (comprehensive, speaking, listening,reading, writing and elementary reading and writing), with a total of 28volumes.

Itis suitable for learners who have completed Developing Chinese ElementaryListening Course (II) or equivalent elementary Chinese textbooks and havereached the entry-level of intermediate Chinese. The book contains 28 lessons,with each lesson consisting of three parts: Pre-task, While-task, andPost-task. The Pre-task section features a “Free Talk” segment to fully warm uplearners and activate their background knowledge. The While-task section guideslearners to understand the text through exercises that progress from easy todifficult. The Post-task section deepens the content and focuses on languageforms, including discussions on in-class topics or after-class surveys, as wellas consolidation exercises for the language knowledge learned in the lesson.

Li Quan, Editor-in-Chief, is a professor and doctoralsupervisor at the School of Chinese Studies and Cultural Exchange, RenminUniversity of China. Professor Li is also a member of the National SteeringCommittee for Postgraduate Education of International Chinese LanguageEducation, vice president of the Beijing Language Association, executivedirector of the International Society for Chinese Language Teaching, andeditorial board member of various journals such as Chinese Teaching in theWorld and Applied Linguistics.
