The goal of Great Wall Chinese is to develop learners' communicative competence with Chinese language. Different means of teaching, such as on-line multimedia courseware, multimedia CDs, face-to-face teaching in class, textbooks and workbooks are employed. Learners' progress is monitored and assessed instantly. And personalized learning schemes with the backing of rich teaching resources are provided. The printed textbooks can be used together with the online multimedia courseware and multimedia CD-ROM. It is suitable for both classroom-teaching and self-study. Great Wall Chinese contains three component books, Essentials in Communication, Progression in Communication, and Fluency in Communication, which are interrelated with each other, but are also complete within themselves. Each level contains six textbooks (each with one CD), six workbooks, one grammar handbook, and six multimedia CD-ROMs.
