Because this cross-platform approach was (until now) relatively untested and bumped into a few stumbling blocks, we found that we did need to open up XML files using Notepad.

But if you consider the sheer scale of the requirements for compatibility across platforms, no longer do the big five give you an accurate picture of web users as a whole.

Unfortunately, these do not currently work very well across different platforms.

In addition, the cross-platform compatibility of XML makes it an ideal choice where you have to share data between different platforms and environments.

As mentioned above, we have quite often found ourselves using Notepad to at least view, and in some instances to edit, the XML code to overcome various cross-platform compatibility challenges.
