The *Portuguese-Chinese Dictionary* is a comprehensive bilingual dictionary and the first large-scale work of its kind compiled in the fifty years since the founding of the People's Republic of China. It is based on linguistic material accumulated by the compilers through years of practical work and draws upon various dictionaries published abroad. Definitions are illustrated as much as possible through phrases and usage examples, with additional grammatical and usage notes provided where necessary. Attention has also been paid to including new words and new meanings.
The dictionary contains approximately 70,000 entries covering fields such as linguistics, philosophy, politics, economics, military affairs, law, fine arts, astronomy, geography, geology, and medicine. It also includes a vast number of set phrases, short phrases, idioms, common expressions, proverbs, maxims, and aphorisms.
