The “Access to Vocational Chinese” Series is a series of vocationalChinese language textbooks jointly developed by the Center for LanguageEducation and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education and the Talent Center ofthe Nonferrous Metals Industry. Based on the actual teaching development needsof “Chinese + Vocational Skills” in various countries and relying on Chinesevocational colleges, experts from various fields have been organized toparticipate in the development. Referencing the Chinese Proficiency Grading Standards forInternational Chinese Language Education and the Chinese Proficiency Standards for Vocational Education, the textbooksare divided into three levels: elementary, intermediate, and advanced. Eachlevel follows the compilation concepts of “integration of language and skills”and “easy to learn, convenient to teach, and practical to use”. According tothe typical work scenarios, work tasks, and frequently used expressions inrelevant occupations, sections such as texts, conversations, language points,and exercises are designed to continuously improve learners’ Chineseapplication proficiency and key technical abilities in the field of vocationaltechnology, providing assistance for learners to quickly get familiar with andadapt to the work environment.

This volume is Application of Additive Manufacturing Technology(Elementary), suitable for international employees, learners, and othergroups in the field of additive manufacturing. By studying this textbook,learners will be able to conduct simple work-related communication in Chinese,understand the operational skills of additive manufacturing-related processes,and comprehend Chinese job instructions.
Duringthe compilation of this textbook, industry experts and enterprise technicianswere invited to provide guidance. Investigations were conducted in Chineseenterprises stationed abroad to understand the enterprises’ requirements forlocal employees in terms of language proficiency, technical skills, and overallcompetence. The technical points that industry experts and front-lineenterprise employees believe learners should master were taken as the basis forcontent selection. Real corpus from actual work scenarios and typical worktasks was carefully selected and reconstructed into texts and dialogues thatmatch the proficiency level of “zero-based” learners. Approximately 15high-frequency words, as well as commonly used phrases and short sentences inwork, are selected for each work task. The textbook consists of 36 lessons intotal, and each lesson includes eight parts: Review, Warm-up, New WordsLearning, Text Learning, Grammar Learning, Chinese Character Writing,Vocational Development/Cultural Development, and Summary. It is also equippedwith abundant pictures, striving to present real vocational scenarios in acombination of pictures and texts. In addition, supporting resources such asaudio and video materials have been developed for this textbook to helplearners master the ability to conduct basic communication in Chinese invocational scenarios.
