Practical Chinese for Official Functions, through the official activities of an international organization in China named Edu, helps learners understand and learn the knowledge and skills needed for official business in China. This course is designed for expatriates at intermediate Chinese level who are engaged in official business in embassies, companies, UN agencies and missions of international organizations in China.
There are altogether 26 acts in the ten episodes throughout the whole book, which uses Jack's working experience in China as a clue, and teaches learners vocabulary, sentence patterns, knowledge and skills needed for official functions through the description of several grand events including World Education Exhibition, fund raising for the education of the disabled. Each episode contains five parts, namely, text, new words, background information, exercises and reading materials. Chinese Pinyin and English translation are also included. To make the language vivid and practical, typical scenes of official business are designed in the form of dialogues. As a result, the characters can communicate with each other with clearly defined tasks and objectives, and the learners can learn as if they were present on the scene.
