After three and a half years' pregnancy, his wife gives birth to a flesh ball and a boy jumps out from the ball. A Taoist named Taiyi Zhenren comes to express congratulations. He names the boy Nezha and gives him a universe ring and firing wheels, accepting Nezha as his disciple. When Nezha is seven years old, the area is afflicted with severe drought, while the dragon king of the eastern sea keeps a blind eye to it and refuses to give an artificial precipitation and worse that he asks Yecha (an evil spirit) to snatch little children from the beaches. The virtuous Nezha kills Yecha and the son of the dragon king, Aobing. The dragon king goes to Heaven to bring a case but is beaten brutally by Nezha. Afterwards, the dragon king invites his three brothers in revenge, flooding Chentangguan and asking for Nezha's life. Nezha wants to fight back but is refrained by his father. Therefore he bravely commits suicide by cutting his throat in defense of all residents in Chentangguan. After that, Taiyi Zhenren lets Nezha be revived from death by rebuilding his body with fresh lotus roots and lotus flowers. The revived Nezha, portrayed as a divine warrior with three heads and six arms, destroys the dragon palace and rids the people of a scourge by defeating the dragon king.

Nezha Conquers the Dragon King, directed by Wang Shuchen, Yan Dingxian and Xu Jingda is the first wide-screen animated feature produced in China, wining the best animation film in the third Hundred Flower Awards in 1980. The production of animation was suspended for almost 10 years during the Cultural Revolution. So Nezha's return is of far-reaching importance to China's animation as well as China's cultural circle.
He has one daily task that irks him: he has to haul two buckets of water up the hill. He tries to share the job with another monk who comes to the temple later, but the carrying pole the monks use is only long enough for one bucket. The arrival of a third monk prompts everyone to expect that someone else will take on the chore. Consequently, no one fetches water though everybody is thirsty. At night, a rat comes to scrounge and then knocks the candleholder, leading to a devastating fire in the temple. The three monks finally unite together and make a concerted effort to put out the fire. Since then they understand the old saying "unity is strength" and begin to live a harmonious life. The temple never lacks water again.

Three Monks, directed by late cartoonist A Da, won the best animation film in the first Golden Rooster Awards. Established in 1981 by the China Film Association, the award is so named because 1981, according to Chinese lunar calendar, was the year of rooster. The yearly awards are decided by a special committee composed of film experts.

Three Monks also won a Silver Bear for Short Film at the 32nd Berlin Film Festival in 1982.

It was probably put into its present form in the 1570s by Wu Cheng'en (1500-82).
This lively fantasy relates the amazing adventures of the priest Xuanzang as he travels west in search of Buddhist sutras with his three disciples, the irreverent and capable Monkey, greedy Pig, and Friar Sand. The opening chapters recount the earlier exploits of Monkey, culminating in his rebellion against Heaven. We then learn how Xuanzang became a monk and was sent on his pilgrimage by the Tang emperor who had escaped death with the help of an Underworld official.

The main story, the journey, takes the priest through all kinds of entertaining trials and tribulations, mainly at the hands of monsters and spirits who want to eat him. Most, like the ferocious Red Boy, want to devour him. Some, such as the scorpion spirit of Pipa Cave, take the form of beautiful women in the hope of seducing him. Only the courage and powers of his disciples, especially Monkey, save him from death. Monkey has to use all his connections in the supernatural world to find the help that will enable him to defeat these and other formidable enemies, such as the Bull Demon King and Princess iron Fan, or the imitation Monkey who is indistinguishable from himself. On the last part of the journey the demons come in as wide a range of shapes and kinds as ever. Among them are spider-women who spin webs from their navels, a pride of lion monsters and a terrible female spirit who carries the Tang Priest down into her bottomless cave to marry him. These and all the other fiends test to the very limit Monkey's ingenuity, supernatural powers and connections throughout the universe. Monkey is the hero of the fantasy, and the reader will soon learn why he has long been so loved in China. Will the pilgrims reach the Vulture Peak and obtain the scriptures? The answer will only be found at the end of the 100-chapter novel.

The story is as full of imagination as Monkey is of magic, and packed with incident and down-to-earth humor. When King Wu (Ji Fa) of the Zhou in the West of the Shang Kingdom made the expedition to the ruler of the Shang, immortal Jiang Ziya was conferred commander of the army assembled from the nobles. Nezha and his father joined the expedition. Nezha was commander of the vanguard. He fought by bravery and strategy. After overthrowing the Shang he and his father were both canonized as deities.

When he heard that there were many immortals in Mount Lao, he went there at once.

There was a Daoist who still looked young although he was very old. Wang Qi became one his pupils. During the first month, Wang Qi went to the hills for woods with others every day and listened to the instructions of his teacher patiently. In the second month, he felt that he could not stand the hard and tiring life, but he still waited for the teacher to teach him the magical skills. In the third month, he could not bear the suffering any longer. He went to see his teacher and said, " I've been working hard for so many days. Now would you please teach me some skills, or it'll be a waste of time for me to be here."

"What do you want to learn?"

"Whatever."

"Then I'll teach you how to go through a wall." Then the Daoist told Wang Qi the incantations. After reciting the incantations of the magic, Wang Qi made it. With great pleasure, Wang Qi said goodbye to his teacher and went back home.

Back at home, he told his family and neighbors that he had met with an immortal and learned how to go through a wall magically, but no one believed in him. So Wang Qi recited the incantations and ran towards a wall to prove his point. However, his head hit wall with a "Bang", and he was knocked heavily. His wife helped him to his feet and found that there was a large bump on his forehead.
