This dictionary includes altogether more than 800 frequently used Chinese function words, as well as some common affixes and conjunction words, of which 180 pairs similar in meaning are compared, and 250 function words often misused by international students are presented with the wrong sentences they made and the corrected sentences are also provided. Each function word is marked with its word type, pinyin and English translation. Example sentences are used to explain the meanings and usages of function words. The example sentences, being ample and practical, are closely related to the contemporary Chinese society and the study and life of international students. Two indexing methods, one based on phonetics and the other on strokes, are provided.

About the Author
Yang Jizhou is the Professor of Beijing Language and Culture University and the Supervisor of the Master candidates majoring in Curriculum and Pedagogy. With years of work in the compilation of TCFL textbooks and research of TCFL, he published The Syllabus of Teaching Elementary Chinese for Foreigners, the series of textbooks Chinese Course and Climbing Up, and the dictionary 1700 Groups of Frequently Used Chinese Synonyms. Wu Yingzi, Ph.D. in literature, is an associate professor and postgraduate supervisor in the College of International Culture, South China Normal University. 380 Most Commonly Used Chinese Verbs is a textbook and work of reference designed for learners with an intermediate level of Chinese. It can also be used as supplementary or teach yourself material.

The book deals with 380 verbs which are in the most common use, many of which are similar in meaning to each other. Through examples and comparisons, the learners' ability to use the Chinese language in a wide variety of situations will be improved.

The book is divided into two parts; the first part deals with monosyllabic verbs, and the second part disyllabic verbs. The styles of the two parts are a little different: The examples given for monosyllabic verbs include phrases and sentences, but for disyllabic verbs only sentences are given. The verbs are arranged alphabetically, according to their pinyin order.

The book differs from other reference books in that it puts emphasis on those connotations which are easily confused, but not on elaborating all the meanings of the verbs. A Dictionary of the Usage of Common Chinese Separable Words is the first small-size dictionary of Chinese separable words compiled in accordance with the Syllabus of the Graded Words and Characters for HSK, including altogether 268 separable words at Levels A, B, C and D in the Syllabus. The usages of each entry are taught and demonstrated from two aspects, namely syntactic functions and possible components to be inserted. Each usage is illustrated by 1-3 model sentences, which are made simpler and more practical by modifying the original authentic sentences. In addition, parts like “True vs False”, “Special Usages” and “Additional Remarks” are designed to account for some special cases. The words in the dictionary can be located according to their pronunciations or levels.

A Chinese Grammar for Foreign Learners is designed to help Chinese learners study and practice Chinese grammar. The book series has four volumes in total. Based on the relevant teaching and examination outlines and textbooks, approximately 600 grammatical items covering students’ different study stages (threshold, elementary, intermediate and advanced stages respectively) are selected. All these grammatical items may be difficult for students to learn Chinese. Arranged from the easy ones to the complex ones, these grammatical items are explained in simple language and supplemented by well-selected and clearly-focused exercises in an effort to help students command Chinese grammar step by step.

This book is the first volume in which 108 grammatical items are selected. It is suitable for beginners who have studied grammar for about 300~ 400 hours. Almost all the words appearing in the explanations, examples and exercises are the 1,000 most commonly used ones.

About the Author

Multiple Feature Checking and Its Syntactic Consequences

This book introduces the Multiple Feature Checking theory under the Framework of the Minimalist Program and examines some grammatical phenomena in Chinese, such as the circumstance modality sentences, WH-questions and verb-copying sentences. It also discusses the word order of prepositional phrases and explores the issues related to topic sentences. In this book, efforts are made to explain these phenomena under one theoretical framework. This is the first monopoly that uses Multiple Feature Checking theory. It can be used by readers who have studied the Framework of the Minimalist Program or those who are doing research on Chinese syntactic parsing.

About the Author

Si Fuzhen is an Associate Professor and Supervisor of MA candidates of Beijing Language and Culture University. A Practical Chinese Grammar for Foreigners was first published in 1988 and has been reprinted for many times and has achieved widespread influence. This book is the revised edition which makes important and valuable modification to the original edition based on the suggestions and comments of the teachers and students.

This book gives concise, detailed and explicit explanations of the grammar points. In the aspect of content, besides introducing the most basic and practical grammatical rules, it also has more practical chapters such as "How to make comparisons" and "How to emphasize". In the aspect of style, each chapter has a part entitled "Attention should be paid to..." which deals with a particular issue. Detailed and practical tables and sample sentences including the erroneous sentences for contrast are provided.
